Televisione o no ? PDF Stampa E-mail

Dear friends,

TV or no TV, this is the question of today's mail.

Since we started the IFAP family program it has been our declared aim to offer all the beneficiaries in these families a home and a loving family and provide everything they need to live a life in dignity and safety.

Whatever we are providing whether this be the furniture, the food, the clothing, hygiene, education and recreation, we are choosing good quality, but in the same token we are careful not to spoil our beneficiaries. We do not want to offer them a lifestyle that they will not be able to maintain later on when they are ready to stand on their own feed and leave our organization!

Quite a number of you did visit our organization and the families and all of you were able to witness that we are successfully walking the fine line between "not enough" and "too much".

Today's issue is a TV. As you all can imagine our kids are constantly asking for a TV in their respective homes. Until today we always refused, reasoning that all of them would spend too much time watching TV, staying up too late at night and neglecting their duties like homework and tasks in the home.

However, in Nepal like in almost every other country, nowadays almost every house has a TV and even in the poorest house you will find the family gathering in front of a TV in the evening.

Especially in the winter it is getting dark early the kids can't play outside and they are becoming quite bored.

This is way we are considering to provide each family with a TV. Strict rules and regulations will apply though;

They will only be allowed to watch TV after homework and after dinner, limited from 7:30pm until 9:15 pm. Should this rule be breached, and we shall make frequent controls, than the TV will be taken away from them.

We believe that this would be a good compromise to keep our families happy meanwhile not letting them indulge excessively in this sort of entertainment.

Given that this is a major decision we would like to invite you all to participate in the decision-making-process and share your views with us.

We are looking forward to your feed back!

With a warm Namaste the SOS Bahini TEAM
